Allergic dermatitis in the hands in the form of rashes on the skin of a different nature can occur as a result of direct contact with the allergen, and may be a response to the flow of the stimulus into the body through the hematogenous route – through the intestines and blood. In the first case, we are dealing with simple contact dermatitis, in the second – with toxicidermic.

Causes of dermatitis on the hands
Before treating dermatitis in the hands, you need to try to find out its etiology – to understand the causes of the pathology and find the factors that influenced the development of allergies. These factors can be exogenous or endogenous (external or internal).
External causes mean mechanical effects, temperature effects, the effects of radiation (ultraviolet, radioactive or x-ray). This group includes contacts with various chemicals (salts of heavy metals, acids, alkalis, household chemicals), as well as with plants and microorganisms.
Internal causes of dermatitis in the arms and other parts of the body are:
- Allergic reactions to food or medication;
- Nervous and mental disorders;
- Pathology of the digestive tract;
- Deficiency of certain vitamins;
- Endocrine Disorders
Allergic dermatitis can be cured with the help of traditional treatment, supplemented by alternative methods of exposure.
Traditional treatment
Elimination of influence factors
Treatment of contact dermatitis is to eliminate the allergen or influence factor. Most often, contact dermatitis is caused by the constant or periodic exposure of a household chemical product. It is no coincidence that dermatitis in the hands occurs mainly in women who have more frequent contacts with household chemicals.
Having determined the allergen, it is necessary to exclude all contact with it. The allergen may be soap, dishwashing detergent, or laundry detergent. Treatment in this case consists in eliminating the symptoms and is carried out at home, and dermatitis after the exclusion of the allergen disappears by itself. A specialist will help determine the irritant by conducting a series of tests.
Drug treatment
If it is not possible to identify an allergen or the disease is caused by internal causes, the doctor prescribes medication. The most effective in the treatment of dermatitis in the hands and other parts of the body are antihistamines. These drugs block histamine, the substance responsible for most physiological reactions.
Antihistamines can be used orally in the form of tablets and drops (Erius, Tavegil, Suprastin, Claritin) and externally in the form of ointments (Elokom, Elidel, Fenistil and others). Modern antihistamines are quite mild and give minimal adverse reactions.
In difficult cases, dermatitis in the hands can be cured only with the help of glucocorticoids – hormonal drugs that suppress allergic reactions. It can be tablets for internal use (prednisone) or ointments (Lokoid).
Dermatitis complicated by infections should be treated with antibacterial drugs – they are applied to the skin in the form of ointments. Allergies caused by stress should be treated with sedatives. If dermatitis is caused by a lack of vitamins, it must be treated with the help of complex vitamin preparations and special therapeutic creams (Friederm or cream based on Propolis).
Diet therapy
Allergic dermatitis in the hands can be caused by malnutrition, in which case the treatment consists in following a hypoallergenic diet to patients. From the diet are excluded:
- eggs
- fish;
- citrus;
- Exotic fruits;
- red and orange vegetables;
- spices;
- coffee;
- alcoholic drinks;
The patient adheres to such a diet until the dermatitis in his hands disappears. Treatment with hypoallergenic nutrition is supplemented by the use of soothing creams and ointments.
Traditional Therapy
It is possible to cure dermatitis at home with folk remedies – it is better if they are not independent and unique methods of therapy, but complement the traditional treatment.
You can treat dermatitis with herbal baths for hands. The composition of the healing fluid includes decoctions of calendula, chamomile, field horsetail and St. John’s wort, mixed in equal proportions. These herbs are proven over the centuries remedies for any inflammatory reactions.
After the bath, you need to wipe your hands dry with a towel, and then apply the moisturizing cream prescribed by your doctor to the skin. To put the nervous system in order, at home it is advisable to take decoctions and infusions of herbs with a sedative (calming) effect. Such decoctions can be made from pharmacy chamomile, lemon balm, hawthorn or mint.
Allergic itchy dermatitis on the hands can be treated with infusion from the bark of blackcurrant branches – this drink is used internally. Helps from walnut leaves, which are pre-crushed, also help. A rash in the form of vesicles on the hands can be successfully treated with lotions of potassium permanganate.
It is worth treating folk remedies only after a preliminary consultation with a doctor – this will help to avoid undesirable consequences and complications.
